Man Made Coachella Bomb Threat at Area Casino

The individual taken into custody for threatening to detonate a bomb at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival on Saturday was captured with help from security personnel at the Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City, California. The police were informed by the guards that a man in a Tesla approached them and claimed he would “take responsibility for a bombing” at the festival, located approximately 17 miles away at the Empire Polo Club.

By utilizing DMV records, Cathedral City police determined that the car belonged to Davis Darvish, a 40-year-old living in Santa Monica, and subsequently started looking for his vehicle.

Investigators employed Flock ALPR automated license plate recognition cameras to monitor the vehicle's movements across the Coachella Valley, finding it in Palm Springs in under an hour.

Darvish was taken into custody at 12:11 p.m. On Saturday, Palm Springs police handed the investigation back to Cathedral City police. A search of Darvish's car found no firearms, explosives, or bomb-manufacturing materials.

Darvish faces charges for making bomb threats and is currently held at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, California, with a bail set at $1 million.

Coachella occurs for six days across two consecutive weekends each April and usually attracts 125K visitors daily.

The Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City is the latest addition to the three gaming establishments operated by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. Opened in November 2020, it became part of the locations owned by the Tribe in Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs. The 13-acre site features a gaming area of 38,000 square feet.

This is an unfolding tale.
