Casino Crime Roundup: Tennessee Business Raided for Illegal Gambling
On Friday, a convenience store owner in Tennessee was apprehended following a police investigation into illegal gambling activities at the business.
The suspect, Nimit Patel, 40, faced charges for reportedly compensating game winners with merchandise, then swapping the winning tickets for cash through a third party, as stated by officers from the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.
Patel faced charges for promoting gambling, aggravated gambling promotion, possessing a gambling device or record, and resisting or obstructing a legal writ or process. He was arrested at the Crockett County jail, and his case was handed to the local prosecutors.
Police stated that during the raid, officers confiscated $4,208, two gambling devices, ledgers, and payout slips.
The establishment was recognized as “The Country Store,” also referred to as “E & T Gas” in Gadsden, Tennessee, as reported by Tennessee television station WBBJ.
Law enforcement received a tip regarding potential unlawful actions occurring at the business, prompting an inquiry by undercover agents who compiled sufficient evidence for a local judge to authorize a search warrant.
Vehicle Taken from Casino Parking Area
A Nissan Altima sedan was taken from Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington on Friday afternoon.
According to a statement from Delaware State Police, state troopers apprehended Breana Brooks, 28, from Dover for stealing a motor vehicle.
Brooks is said to have taken the car keys from a woman's jacket pocket within the casino. The victim had placed her jacket next to a slot machine. The jacket's owner was not close to it when the keys were taken.
Brooks subsequently went into the parking area and eventually matched the keys to the Nissan that was abandoned there, according to police.
State troopers identified Brooks as the suspect after examining security footage from the casino.
Brooks was seen in the stolen vehicle on Saturday prior to being apprehended by officers from the Dover Police Department. She was taken into custody at Delaware's Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, with bail established at $2,000.
Authorities did not disclose the reason why Brooks purportedly took the vehicle.
